THE FIRST AND LARGEST 3D PRINTER FOR PRINTING BUILDINGS
IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC,
3. THE LARGEST BUILDING PRINTER IN EUROPE

The 3D printer for printing buildings from concrete mixtures was created by two cooperating companies –  Podzimek & synové and Strojírny Podzimek placed in the Czech town Třešť  and parts of Czech Technival University (CTU/ČVUT)  – the Institute of Design and Machine Parts of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Czech Technical University and the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University.

The printer was developed as part of a project supported by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TH04010143 - 3D PRINTER OF BUILDINGS AND PREFABRICATED COMPONENTS FOR CONSTRUCTION 4.0) within the Epsilon program.

The goal of the project is not only the development of a 3D printer, but also mastering the issue of processing and controlling the properties of the printing material.

ADVANTAGES OF PODZIMEK 3D PRINTERS

• Continuously adjustable onset of mixture setting time thanks to a unique solution.
• Konstruována pro práci ve venkovním prostředí, a to bez ochranné stavby.
• Possible printing right at the place of the final realization.
• Possibility of printing various or random shapes,  ornamental elements of facade or other building elements.

3D PRINTER PROPERTIES

The printer workspace has an area of 15 m x 7.5 m and a height of 5.5 m.

Concept of 3D printer as portal, running on rails, with a vertically moving cross member that carries the print head. The control is based on an industrial solution using the Sinumerik system. The operation of the printer is controlled by means of G‑code.

Advantages of 3D printing in the construction industry

Reducing the need of human labor
Acceleration of construction
Automation of processes
Repeatability of projects

Prospective cost reduction
The unique morphology of the buildings
Market growth potential
Attractiveness for young technicians

The Podzimek 3D printer is the result of invention, know-how and the work of the development team led by Martin Podzimek and the company Strojírny Podzimek s.r.o.

The construction of the printer was made by Strojírny Podzimek s.r.o., a traditional manufacturer and supplier of technologies for the stone industry and waterworks. The Institute of Design and Machine Parts of the FS CTU is behind the development of the complete structural part of the 3D printer, together with the technology for transporting the printing mixture to the nozzle.

The development of a unique building material with specific parameters was supported by the FSv CTU with its research and know-how.
